About the Hypnotherapist

Dr John Barry

Dr John Barry

Hello, thank you for visiting this website.

Dr John Barry (PhD, MSc, BA, FBPsS, DHyp, CPsychol), chartered psychologist psychology researcher, and clinical hypnotherapist.

After graduating with an honours degree in psychology (University of Sussex), and embarking on a counselling training course, John Barry became eager to find a method of therapy that produced results more rapidly. After training with the London College of Clinical Hypnosis and receiving a diploma in Clinical Hypnosis (DHyp) from the Psychotherapy and Hypnosis Training Association at Regent’s College (now Regent’s University), Dr Barry started his hypnotherapy practice in London in 1999. Since then he has helped hundreds of people with issues such as anxiety, relationship problems and smoking cessation. Due to a growing interest in links between the mind and health, he took a part-time MSc in Health Psychology (University of Westminster). This led to a PhD in Psychology (City University London) after which he worked as a researcher at University College London (UCL) and became a Member of the exclusive British Society of Clinical and Academic Hypnosis. Some of John’s work on hypnosis has been published, including an attachment-based intervention for relationship problems, and his groundbreaking research on the impact of relaxation & guided imagery on mental health and hormone levels in PCOS, which found that – remarkably - this treatment reduced adrenal androgens.

Dr Barry practices in central London and Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk as well as online, treating mainly anxiety-related conditions.
